2008
The category for Best public sector leadership for injury prevention and management was awarded to the Department of Agriculture and Food.
Employing 1,900 people in metropolitan and regional locations, the Department's role is to improve the competitiveness and sustainability of agriculture. The huge diversity of work undertaken by the Department presents a broad range of hazards and risks. Safety and health is integrated into all work activities, and excellent consultation mechanisms have been established throughout the Department.
The category for Best workplace safety and health management system was awarded to Main Roads Western Australia.
Employing 1,100 people, Main Roads manages a network of more than 17,800km of national highways and State roads and works with local government to create an efficient transport network. Main Roads has an excellent integrated management system incorporating occupational safety and health, environment and quality, and has achieved a very clear improvement in safety and reduction in injuries.

2007
In 2007, the category for Best public sector leadership for injury prevention and management was awarded to the Port of Broome. The Port of Broome (the Port) were entered into the National Safe Work Australia Awards administered by the Commonwealth Department of Employment and Workplace Relations.
The Port has a proactive approach to safety and is committed to providing a safe working environment. Senior management, supervisors and operators are required to attend specific safety training courses to continuously enhance their knowledge of occupational safety and health.
The Port’s new employee induction process was recently reviewed to reflect changes in the working environment due to an increase in offshore oil and gas activity.
