Role of the Steering Committee

A steering committee has been formed to drive the Government Leading the Way in Public Sector Safety, Health and Injury Management initiative.

The steering committee consists of representatives from the Department of Commerce's WorkSafe and Office of the Director General divisions, RiskCover, WorkCover WA, Public Sector Commission, and UnionsWA.

The steering committee convenes to:

  1. To identify, develop and implement strategic initiatives to assist agencies to improve occupational safety, health and injury management performance in accordance with the National Occupational Health and Safety Strategy 2002-2012;
  2. To develop and implement mechanisms and strategies to assist public sector agencies to comply with the national occupational safety and health targets including the setting of agency targets consistent with the national strategy;
  3. To monitor emerging issues of strategic significance and provide policy and strategic advice to Government on occupational safety, health and injury management;
  4. To provide advice, leadership and direction on strategies for creating best practice occupational safety, health and injury management practices in the WA public sector;
  5. To foster commitment of Government workplace leaders to improve occupational safety, health and injury management outcomes;
  6. To provide a forum where systemic public sector wide occupational safety, health and injury management can be raised, discussed and addressed;
  7. To provide a conduit through which key government agencies can consult, at a strategic level, on occupational safety, health and injury management matters;
  8. To promote best practice occupational safety, health and injury management both within their agency and across the public sector; and
  9. To consult and establish positive relationships with stakeholders across the public sector to further the objective of improving occupational safety, health and injury management systems and practices within the WA public sector.
